The University of Arkansas invited over 2,500 Razorback parents and families to campus for it’s annual Family Weekend. This tradition, taking place from Sept. 13-15, strengthened bonds through a weekend of tailgating, festivities and football.

Family Weekend is sponsored by the Parent & Family programs branch of the Division of Student Affairs. Parent & Family program’s goal is to be a supportive voice for students by providing resources, relationships, education and communication, recognizing the crucial role that parents and family members play in their student’s college success.

Jordan Frederking, associate director of Parent & Family programs, “Family Weekend is a great opportunity for parents and families to engage with campus and connect with their students,” she said. “It’s a chance to see how their students are thriving on campus, meet their new friends, and enjoy being a part of the Razorback community cheering on the hogs.”

The weekend’s schedule was packed with a variety of events for families to choose between and participate in, including the traditional Sunday brunch. Cardinal Nights, a student-led late-night programming board, also sponsors a Casino Night and the PFA Cardinal Member reception for Cardinal Members to attend. This year’s reception had over 300 attendees.

One of the weekend’s biggest events was the Family Tailgate, which Frederking said had a great turnout of parents, students and other guests.

Family Weekend registration is $100 a person. This pricing includes a t-shirt and memorabilia, entrance to Cardinal Nights and the family tailgate, the Sunday Family brunch and eligibility to purchase discounted tickets for the weekend’s Razorback football game. Food is included in all of the previously mentioned events.

Students are not required to purchase a package to participate in the events.

Parent & Family programs extensively plan for this singular weekend throughout the entire year to ensure families can have a fun-filled weekend and an opportunity to explore campus and the wider Northwest Arkansas area. Registration opens as early as July, and the schedule is released one week prior to check-in and kick-off.

More information about the weekend and answers to frequently asked questions can be found on the Division of Student Affairs website.

From playing Black Jack at Friday’s Casino Night to enjoying Southern classics at Sunday’s brunch, Family Weekend is a celebration of Razorback pride and familial bonds.

“We want parents and families to know they are Razorbacks too,” Frederking said, “and their support of their student goes along way with their student’s overall success on campus.”
