The Student Affairs Bulletin

The Division of Student Affairs at the University of Arkansas

Charles Robinson

The Fall 2020 semester is nearly behind us, and to say that it has been unlike any other is an understatement. But there has been some sense of a typical college life on the University of Arkansas campus in the form of co-curricular activities.

Despite the challenges that COVID-19 brought to campus, students have had opportunities to enjoy a real college experience through a number of in-person activities that adhered to safety guidelines. From attending sporting events or joining a Greek organization to playing an intramural sport or volunteering time, there have been traditional activities for students to take part. I hope you enjoy the stories in this issue and consider following the social media accounts listed to always be up to date with what is happening on campus.

U of A Cares in the Dean of Students office helps students navigate some of the many issues that can come up during college. Students deal with loss of jobs and other financial difficulties that cause added stress, making it difficult for them to be academically successful, and can lead to them not pursuing their educational goals. U of A Cares helps them with resources and support and the U of A Cares Student Emergency Fund allows them to provide money that might help keep a student in school. COVID-19 has of course made things more complicated, but many people have contributed to the Emergency Fund since the pandemic started and that has helped so many students.

Our Q&As this issue come from the Student Affairs main office suite, which houses my office and the Dean of Students offices. Staff member Katie Doughty helps keep things running smooth and oversees the Golden Tusk award program. And our student staff member Christian Ariota, who has been working in our office for several years, is graduating this month and he will be missed.

Thanks for reading. We hope you enjoy this December issue of the Student Affairs Bulletin. If you have ideas for stories or would like more information please email Scott Flanagin, executive director of communications at sflanagi@uark.edu.
