The Division of Student Affairs at the University of Arkansas

Homecoming is always a special time, and the Razorback spirit was palpable on campus this year.  Division and campus wide collaborations resulted in time honored traditions while also creating new ones. National Pan-Hellenic Council’s annual Step Show was once again a crowd favoriate, delivering high energy performances. An amazing Fireworks show capped off a spirited Pep Rally. And before all of that started there was the new “HOCO Party On the Mall,” where students mingled with alumni and families who came out in droves. It was a night to remember!

Our Jane B. Gearhart Full Circle Food Pantry is one of the best resources we have in supporting student and staff well-being. This group helps feed those members of our campus community who are experiencing food insecurity. During the 2022-2023 school year the Pantry served 10,623 individuals and had 129 volunteers work 1,254 hours. Before the Homecoming game on Oct. 21 the Pantry received a $50,000 donation from Hellmann’s and iHeartMedia Impact team. This gift could fund the pantry for an entire year and will have a major impact on what they can do to better serve clients.

Our Q&As this issue feature our senior director of development and one of our student staff who works the front desk of the vice chancellor and dean of student’s suite. Benjamin Carter has been raising funds for the University of Arkansas for many years. He works closely with division units to help ensure we can support students in progressing through their degree and present their ideas to supporters like you. Kate Bearden is a senior majoring in Business Marketing and has worked at the front desk in the VCSA Suite for more than a year. She is on track to graduate in December and has plans to work for the Walmart merchandising development program after commencement.

And last, but certainly not least, we have hired a new assistant vice chancellor for financial affairs – Jackie Micheletto. Jackie has a great skill set and has had a unique experience on this campus. Jackie was a young mother and work study student, then worked full time in the College of Education and Health Professions while finishing her degrees. Her lived experiences help her understand the complex needs of students.
