How long have you been at the University of Arkansas in Student Affairs?
I started at U of A in October, so it will be 5 months on Monday. What have you enjoyed most about your time here? There is so much to love, but my favorite is helping students.
Tell us a little about your role in Student Affairs. What brings you joy in this role?
I work as the office manager at the Campus Sexual and Relationship Violence Center. I make sure that the office runs smoothly and that all my co-workers have the necessary accoutrements to do their jobs well. I also make sure that people coming into the office feel welcome. The most joyful part of my job is definitely helping with outreach events. It’s like arts and crafts time for adults.
What is the greatest misconception people have about Student Affairs and how do you break that?
People might think that we are all fun and games, but we are really only about 10% fun and games. The other 90% is all the work that goes into putting on the fun and games and making sure that students are happy, healthy, and safe enough to want to have fun and games at all.
What do you like to do with your time outside of the University?
I spend time with my family, garden (poorly), read, bake, crochet, play video games, and play tag with my dog. She usually wins.
What do you hope students and colleagues will remember about your interactions?
My effervescent wit, of course. But also, that I genuinely want to help them succeed.
