How long have you been at the University of Arkansas in Student Affairs? What have you enjoyed most about your time here?
I have been at the U of A in Student Affairs since April 2022 after first starting my full-time career at the University of Central Arkansas. The things I have enjoyed most about my time here are the people I work with and the connections I get to make with students, faculty, and staff!
Tell us a little about your role in Student Affairs. What brings you joy in this role?
I oversee marketing and communications for all of Pat Walker Health Center, which includes medical, mental health, and substance use and support services. From website management, social media management, writing articles, speaking with reporters, promotional activities, and more, there’s never a dull moment. Sharing stories and making connections with our community is what brings me the most joy in my role.
What is the greatest misconception people have about Student Affairs and how do you break that?
The greatest misconception people have about Student Affairs is that the “fun stuff” doesn’t make that much of an impact on our students, faculty, and staff. When actually, making connections and getting involved on campus plays a huge role in your overall health and well-being (as mentioned in numerous studies). One way to break the misconception is to correct the narrative any time we get the chance.
What do you like to do with your time outside of the University?
I’m always on the go. I like spending my time with my family and four dogs, teaching dance classes on the side, going thrift shopping, and traveling. However, I’m also a homebody and love to watch a good Netflix or Hulu show when time allows.
What do you hope students and colleagues will remember about your interactions?
My hope is that students remember interactions with me as informative and helpful, and that whatever they may find themselves needing help with, they can come to me, and I will do my best to find them an answer and/or solution.
As far as colleagues are concerned, I hope that they think of me as helpful, creative, and someone that they can count on. I pride myself on being timely with responses/solutions and coming up with good ideas, so I hope they also see that in me.
Is there anything else you would like to add or let our readers know?
I love making new connections and a good cup of coffee. This also applies even if we’ve already met, and if you don’t like coffee, there’s always other drink options or lunch!
