How long have you been at the University of Arkansas in Student Affairs? What have you enjoyed most about your time here?

I started working as a Graduate Assistant for the Freshman Commuter Student Success retention program in the fall of 2021. I have most enjoyed working directly with students and aiding them in their educational and life journeys. Interacting with students brings me a lot of joy, and this role has allowed me to build several meaningful relationships.

Tell us a little about your role in Student Affairs. What brings you joy in this role?

Freshman Commuter Student Success seeks to provide holistic support for freshman commuters. Primarily, this consists of one-on-one student mentoring and frequent student correspondence. Some of my other responsibilities have included resource development, teaching a University Perspectives class, and building our team culture. My responsibilities in Student Affairs have largely been student facing, so I have had the joy of serving others and helping provide solutions to a variety of issues.

What is the greatest misconception people have about Student Affairs and how do you break that?

Students are often not willing to put themselves out there because they feel that the events, programs, and resources offered through Student Affairs may not be applicable or available to them. So, certain individuals have a misconception that Student Affairs does not have anything for them. However, the division has a multitude of diverse events that cater to the entirety of the university’s population and are inclusive of everyone. I would recommend attending an event and branching out with new people and new experiences!

What do you like to do with your time outside of the University?

I love fellowshipping with my Church family, especially with the students in the college ministry (C3) at Cross Church. Any kind of outdoor recreation, especially hiking or climbing, is thoroughly enjoyable for me. I’ll play just about any sport, but really like tennis and pickleball! I’m also a foodie and a sucker for a good book! So, I love trying new restaurants and reading. Most of all, I enjoy spending time with my fiancé (Lolly) and sharing new life experiences/adventures with her!

What do you hope students and colleagues will remember about your interactions?

I hope students will remember that there is someone who values and cares for them! I have been graced with incredible love, forgiveness, and patience by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ –

and my hope was always to reflect Him to the students I had the privilege of getting to know. I was by no means perfect during my time working in Student Affairs, but always tried to listen well, be intentional, and show others respect!

Is there anything else you would like to add or let our readers know?

My Graduate Assistantship is coming to an end soon, but I will begin a summer internship working in college ministry afterwards. So, I will still be around the University! I always love meeting new students and enjoying a good cup of coffee! I’m open and available for a conversation anytime.
