Tell us something about your academic passions and how those relate to your role in Student Affairs program or department?

Last semester my major was math. After lots of thinking and decision making, I decided to switch to business but still stay within the math realm. The reason I love this subject so much is because there is always a solution on how to solve a problem. That feeling after solving a problem brings me so much joy. I relate that feeling to my position here at work; there is always a solution. Sometimes it takes some searching and time, but it the end when the problem you are faced with is solved, it is so worth the work.

What has been your greatest experience outside of the classroom?

The time in my life where I learned more than I ever could have imagined, was on a trip I took to Ghana. This had been a last-minute decision because I just felt the need to get away and help with something bigger than myself. When I left, I thought I would be helping others, but at the end of the trip, I realized that the amazing people I met were the ones that changed me. There was extreme poverty in the places I visited in Ghana, but the children and adults I talked to held such happiness in their hearts that made me stop and think. I realized that their happiness was not gained through having the newest iPhone, or from buying a $5 cup of coffee. Instead, they focused on their families and the ones they loved. I learned so much through this trip and I hope to visit again soon.

What advice would you give new students about getting involved on campus?

My one piece of advice for new students is this and only this. Your friends that you make in college will be different than the friends you had in high school. It is totally fine. College is a time to start over and get a fresh start from your past. It is time to break out of the bubble and meet people who you may have been nervous to reach out to in the past.

When do you plan to graduate and what is coming next for you?

I plan on graduating in 2023, but as for what comes after college, I am not sure yet. I would love to start a business early on in my career and grow it throughout my life.
