Tell us something about your academic passions and how those relate to your role in Student Affairs program or department?

I am currently studying to be an upper elementary STEM teacher, and I know I will encounter students of all cultures, situations, and backgrounds. Working at the CEA gives me the opportunity to work with students of all walks of life. I get to apply my knowledge of how to help students be successful in this work setting, which is not always common. It helps solidify that teaching and working with students is truly my passion. I know I can help students in the smallest of ways by making sure their academic experience can be inclusive and accepting of their situation.

What has been your greatest experience outside of the classroom?

Last semester, I had the chance to work in a fourth grade and first grade classroom. This was the highlight of my semester hands down. Having the chance to work with students in an environment I want to be in was so gratifying. These kids are so young and hopeful, and in turn, it gives me hope. They have such a bright outlook on life even when the world is not a bright place to be. The world is so simple in their eyes. I try to remind myself of the innocence at that age, but also the importance of showing and teaching them how to respect others and how to discover and understand the world around them.

What advice would you give new students about getting involved on campus?

There is something for everyone on this campus! The student club fairs that happen are always so helpful to see what the university has to offer. It is just a matter of finding what you feel comfortable doing. Obviously in these times, it is a little more challenging, but all of these clubs and opportunities are still offered!

What do you like to do with your time outside of the university?

For the most part, I am working or in class, but with what free time I do have, I love getting to explore the area. Getting some friends together and finding new experiences or places to visit consumes my free time. I am from Fayetteville and being able to show people around my hometown is a great adventure in it of itself. Northwest Arkansas has so much to offer with new things being added constantly. I love this area and experiencing all it has makes for some amazing memories.

When do you plan to graduate and what is coming next for you?

I will graduate in May of 2021 with my bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. After graduation, I plan to attend my fifth year of school in the MAT program through the University. Through this, I will be student teaching for a year while in classes to earn my Masters in the Art of Teaching degree.

Is there anything else you would like to add or let our readers know?

College is a time of discovery. Do not be afraid when new experiences become available, but instead, put yourself out there! There is never a time similar to this, so make the most of every opportunity! Also, wear a mask and wash your hands!
