Tell us something about your academic passions and how those relate to your role in Student Affairs program or department?

From a young age, I have known that my main goal is to help others. I decided that the best path for me to achieve this goal was through the social work profession. I am beyond grateful that my graduate assistantship at the U of A Cares enables me to help people just as I had hoped. I reach out to students, provide support, and connect them with helpful resources offered by the university and community. It can be difficult to attend such a large institution and feel supported (I know this because I went to the U of A for undergrad). That’s why I am so thankful to be in a position that lets students know that they are not alone!

What has been your greatest experience outside of the classroom?

My greatest experience outside of the classroom has been my internship. I intern at an elementary school in Fayetteville as a therapist. I am delighted to have the chance to make a positive impact in the lives of children who are experiencing a variety of mental health struggles and to be present in providing unconditional support and empowerment.

What advice would you give new students about getting involved on campus?

I would tell new students to try new experiences and to put themselves out there. As an introvert, I understand that nerves can get in the way of meeting new people but you only live once! One great way to get connected is by visiting the hogsync website which lists all the current and upcoming events on campus. https://hogsync.uark.edu/events

What do you like to do with your time outside of the university?

I have recently developed a new hobby of fishkeeping, which is turning out to be much more time-consuming and costly than I had anticipated. I also have 30+ houseplants that I attempt to keep alive. When I’m not taking care of my precious fish and cherished plants, I enjoy exploring the local hiking trails with my 2 dogs and partner.

When do you plan to graduate and what is coming next for you?

I hope to graduate this upcoming May; if all goes accordingly, I will be moving to Florida to start my career as a licensed therapist. I would love to work with children in either a school-based setting or in a mental health facility.

Is there anything else you would like to add or let our readers know?

If you find yourself or someone you know needing some general support or any mental health, financial, academic, or housing resources do not hesitate to submit a Cares report.

I know life can be overwhelming and college presents with many diverse challenges; your mental health is just as important as your physical health so seek help when you are struggling, you are worth it!
