The Division of Student Affairs has a variety of scholarships for students attending the University of Arkansas. Each year, Student Affairs awards dozens of scholarships to individuals for many different reasons. While these scholarships do require good academic standing, many of them also recognize leadership, student involvement and community service experiences at the University of Arkansas.
“We encourage all of our students to apply for these scholarships, regardless of their course of study or their year in school,” said Scott Flanagin, executive director of communications for Student Affairs. “Students should also look for scholarships within their college and outside of the university.”
From Spring 2020 through Fall 2020 the Division of Student Affairs awarded 174 scholarships for a total of $152,500. The amount and number of recipients selected to receive each scholarship are based on the applicant pool each year and other factors. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic some scholarships, such as the Johnetta Cross Brazzell Study Abroad Scholarship, were not awarded.
“When you make a gift to Student Affairs, you are making a positive impact on another person’s life. The generosity of our alumni, faculty, staff and friends supports students to ensure they have every available resource to succeed on and off campus,” said Ben Carter, senior director of development for Student Affairs. “I’ve worked for this University raising funds for students for 17 years, and what has always stood out for me is the impact of these scholarships. Not only do they help students who have the greatest needs, but they positively impact the lives of those donors who choose to support and create these scholarships to help those students.”
Current scholarship applications close on February 15. Students who apply for a Student Affairs scholarships now will be notified of their award status at the end of Spring 2021 semester. All current scholarships will be awarded for Fall 2021, with a couple exceptions as noted on the scholarship applications.
“If you are a student, I encourage you to apply now, and if you’re a friend of the University, I encourage you to support these students through a donation to one of our many scholarships,” Carter said.
