Final exams are just around the corner, which will put a wrap on the Fall semester. And it’s been one for the record books – we had the biggest freshmen class ever, the largest overall enrollment in history, and celebrated our 150th birthday as an institution. Although we are ready for the winter break, we are also planning for the spring semester and the new year.
It’s been a long time coming, but it is finally a reality. Last Spring, we broke ground on the NPHC Garden, and it was the beginning of something extraordinary. We dedicated the amazing garden amphitheater in a ceremony on Homecoming morning. The entire campus community can be proud of this space overlooking Don W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. And members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council at the University of Arkansas have a place to call their own.
Our Student Media outlets are now all in the same location for the first time in history. Candace Dixon-Horne and John Horne made a generous gift for the Candace Dixon-Horne Radio Broadcast Center. Thanks to the couple’s generosity, the university’s KXUA radio station space was recently fully renovated, and now includes a KXUA recording studio, control rooms, and teaching space. We dedicated the center on Nov. 5 and have the story for you.
In this issue’s staff Q&A we hear from EmmaLe Davis our director of assessment for Student Affairs. EmmaLe has held several positions with the Division and is very much at home in her current role. We affectionately, and appropriately, call her “Data Diva.” Our student Q&A this issue comes from Fernanda Alcantara, a senior who is currently the president of University Programs and was on this year’s Homecoming Court.
Speaking of Homecoming, we have the results of the Full Circle Campus Food Pantry’s Fifth Annual Pack the Pantry Homecoming food drive. More than 40 organizations and departments across campus participated, and they brought in a record number of items.
Thanks for reading the December issue of the Student Affairs Bulletin, our last issue of the year. We hope you have enjoyed the stories we brought to you. We will take a break in January and be back in your inboxes in February 2022. If you’re interested in more information about anything you see here, or have story ideas, please email Scott Flanagin, executive director of communications at sflanagi@uark.edu.
